1. THE PARABLE OF THE TWO BUILDERS Matthew 7:24~27
This is the first in a series of parables that I will preach at this time. I remind you that a parable is NOT an allegory, in which details are important to the interpretation of the story. In a parable, there is one main idea; and the details are important only as they add to that main point. In this parable, traditionally called ¡°the parable of the house built upon a rock,¡± Jesus compares His listeners to two types of builders. Let us examine what Jesus is teaching in this parable.
I. People Need to Hear the Message! 1. They cannot hear if they do not listen. 2. They cannot hear if they refuse to listen. 3. They cannot hear if they are listening to worldly voices.
For one reason or another, many people will not listen to the message of Jesus Christ. They will listen to the voices of the world, but not to the voice of God.
II. People Who Hear the Message But Do Not Act are Foolish! 1. They are like builders who build a house on sand, with no firm foundation. 2. Their lives will collapse when the rain, floods, and winds of life come. 3. All will be lost completely and unexpectedly.
Foolish people hear (and understand) the message; but for one reason or another, they fail to act upon what they hear and understand. They know they should act, but they simply do not!
